This listing is for the photographed 1983 Korean 1000 Won Banknote. Confucian philosopher Yi Hwang portrayed on the right end of the obverse of the note. One raised colored dot in the left corner of the obverse for the visually impaired. Confucian academy, Dosan Seowon, printed on the reverse. Better condition for a circulated note of this date and type. P# 47 (Pick Number 47).

Korean Confucianism has long been established as one of the founding principles of Korean society, shaping their culture and beliefs for centuries. Confucian philosopher Yi Hwang was one of the most prominent Confucian thinkers of his time, having established the Confucian academy, Dosan Seowon, in 1574. Confucian thought was one of the central issues involving the split of North and South Korea.
