Great rarer addition to any collection!

During the Republic of China (1912-1949) banking in China became decentralized, with a transition to banknote issuance becoming the responsibility of local banks rather than a national bank. Several different provincial banks emerged during this time, such as the Kwangtung Provincial Bank, across the country that were responsible for the issuance and distribution of local paper currency notes. The Kwangtung Provincial Bank was the largest of these local banks operating in China during this period. They began issuing local currency banknotes as early as 1913, all of which were printed by the popular American Bank Note Company. The bank briefly changed their name to the Central Bank of China, issuing notes under this name from 1923 to 1925 before changing their name again to the Kwangtung Central Bank in 1929. In 1931 they once again changed their name, this time returning to their original name, Kwangtung Provincial Bank. Local Chinese banknote operations were suspended from 1949 to 1951, marking the end of the Republic of China period. After the suspension of banknote issuance duties the Kwangtung Provincial Bank was absorbed into the People's Bank of China, which was established following the creation of the People's Republic of China.

Thanks for stopping by!

1931 China Kwangtung Provincial Bank 5 Yuan / 5 Dollar Note - Signature 4, X Prefix - 1931 Chinese Local Currency Five Yuan Note - P#S2422d

https://treasurehunterco.com/hi/products/1941-china-bank-of-communications-5-yuan-note-steamship-transportation-series-rare-1941-chinese-republic-five-yuan-banknote-p-157-copy-1
