Vignettes on the left end of this note include two women holding a book and sat beside a spinning wheel, as well as a sailor with a sextant behind the women. At the center is an anchor, anvil, and barrels on a dock with a port town and lighthouse in the background. On the right end there are vignettes of two women, one holding a sickle, and a male farmer with a bog posed in a farm scene. The entire design of this note symbolizes the relationship between farming and industry, with sailing and commerce connecting them. Very Fine (VF) grade\/condition, some visible folds, repairs, and other signs of circulation, as pictured. When they were founded they became the sole bank operating in Newport. In 1862, successful local businessman Frederick W. Lewis became the cashier of the bank, serving int he position until the bank was reorganized as the \"First National Bank of Newport\" under the National Banking Act of 1865. Lewis would go on to have a successful career in local politics, becoming an incredibly influential figure in Newport's development, even encouraging the local rail line to establish a stop through the town. His home, the Frederick W.
