P#S604 (Pick Number S604).

On August 5th, 1921 Captain Guillermo Cervantes Vasquez led a revolt in the providence of Loreto, Peru. This revolt in turn led to an attempt by the region to gain independence from the Peruvian government, even going so far as to issue their own provincial paper currency notes such as this one. Cervantes and his revolutionaries in Loreto were urged to revolt because of the deep recession caused by the end of the Rubber Boom, which saw delayed salary payments among soldiers and overall economic unrest. Peruvian troops from Lima were sent to Loreto and the rebellion was put down, with Cervantes and other prominent revolutionary leaders fleeing to Ecuador. The uprising was the only one in Peru's history to issue their own currency, making the notes that survive from the revolt exceptionally sought after among collectors!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

1921 Peru Iquitos Revolutionary Government 1 Sol Provincial Check Note - Rare Revolutionary Note - 1921 Peruvian One Sol Banknote - P#S604

https://treasurehunterco.com/products/1954-central-reserve-bank-of-peru-5-soles-de-oro-note-series-j20-1954-peruvian-cinco-five-soles-de-oro-banknote-p-70a-copy
