The obverse of this note shows the portrait \"Young Venetian Woman\" by Albrecht Durer (1505) on the right end. The reverse side of this note shows an oak leaf sprig at the center. Very Fine (VF) grade\/condition, some visible folds and signs of circulation. P#18a (Pick Number 18a). A currency reform began in West Germany in 1948, when the Reichsmark was replaced by the Deutsche Mark. This reform was controlled by the allied powers, who established a two-tiered central bank system that was modeled after the U.S. Federal Reserve System. This system was abolished by the German Government in 1957 and was replaced by the Bundesbank as the main issuer of German currency. When East and West Germany unified in 1990 the Deutsche Mark became the sole currency system in the country.
