Blaisdell was born in 1820 in Dorchester, New Hampshire. In the mid-1840s he moved to Wentworth, NH and opened a store that was located on Old Coos Road. He served as Postmaster of the town, operating the post office from his store, from 1845 to 1849. By 1850 Blaisdell was the second wealthiest man in the town according to tax records, showing the immense success of his store. In 1851 he became a justice of the peace in Wentworth, along with several other local businessmen at the time. In the years leading up to the Civil War Blaisdell operated one of the two most successful storefronts in Wentworth.
