1942 Philippines Japanese Government 1 Peso Note - Occupied Philippines - Allied Counterfeit - 1942 Filipino Forgery One Peso Note - P#106x
This listing is for one photographed 1942 Occupied Philippines 1 Peso Allied Counterfeit Note. This note was forged by the Allied forces during World War II. All forged notes are part of the PH block and have some minor differences in the details, as shown in the last photo. Very Good/Fine (VG/F) grade/condition, visible signs of wear and circulation. P#106x (Pick Number 106x). Super cool and rarer find from World War II! Interesting history!
During World War II in the Philippines, the occupying Japanese government issued a fiat currency in several denominations; this is known as the Japanese government-issued Philippine peso. The Japanese government outlawed possession of guerrilla currency, and declared a monopoly on the issuance of money, so that anyone found to possess guerrilla notes could be arrested or even executed. In an attempt to destabilize the Japanese-occupied economy during the war, the United States counterfeited several denominations and issues of Japanese Government issued currency. A supply of the paper made from local plants that was used for Japanese Government Philippines banknotes was used by the United States until that supply ran out. Very interesting aspect of World War II history!
