This listing is for the Antique 1879 Victorian Prepaid Half Penny Postcard Letter sent from London to Portland, Maine that includes a rarer 1870 1/2 Penny Rose Red Stamp. The letter on this postcard was dated September 26th, 1879 as written on the reverse side. the postcard is a prepaid stationary that includes a 1/2 penny stamp printed on the upper right corner, which was a popular form of correspondence in England at the time. Since the letter was being sent internationally an additional half penny stamp, known as the 1870 Rose Red Stamp, is placed next to the original stamp. These rose red stamps were first issued in 1870 and became the smallest size of stamp used in the country, and still remains the smallest today, making it a great collectors item! The stamp is the plate number 5, with the letters QG in each corner of the stamp and is identified by the Scott #58. This is an incredibly interesting peice of Victorian history and shows the unique forms of correspondance that were used during that time! The addition of the rarer and sought after stamp on the postcard adds to the value of this find and makes this a must have for any collection!
