This listing is for the photographed 1977 Germany Deutsche Bundesbank 10 Deutsche Mark Banknote. Issued on June 1st, 1977. The obverse of this note shows an early portrait of Lucas Cranach the Elder on the right end. The reverse side of this note shows the sailing training ship Gorch Fork at the center, symbolizing German openness to the world. Very Fine (VF) grade/condition, some visible folds and signs of circulation. P#31b (Pick Number 31b). 

Following Germany's loss in World War II, the Reichsmark was practically worthless. A currency reform began in West Germany in 1948, when the Reichsmark was replaced by the Deutsche Mark. This reform was controlled by the allied powers, who established a two-tiered central bank system that was modeled after the U.S. Federal Reserve System. This system was abolished by the German Government in 1957 and was replaced by the Bundesbank as the main issuer of German currency. When East and West Germany unified in 1990 the Deutsche Mark became the sole currency system in the country. This made the Bundesbank the sole issuer of currency throughout the union.
