This listing is for the photographed 1899 US 1 Dollar Black Eagle Silver Certificate. Signed by Speelman and White. Very Good (VG) Grade/Condition. Fr#236 (Friedburg Number 236).
The design of this bill is unlike any other produced. Instead of the typical portrait of a president, founding father, or other important individual in the center of the bill, it depicts a black eagle atop the American Flag. Underneath the eagle, on either side of its talons, there are smaller portraits of Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses Grant. This is also the only banknote to have portraits of two different presidents.
This type of Silver certificate was issued beginning in 1899. The Series of 1899 $1 Silver certificate is sometimes called the "Black Eagle" note due to the prominence of the eagle on the front. This bill was printed more than 115 years ago, making it an increasingly rare collectible.
