This listing is for the Mardi Gras Aluminum Watusi / Children of the Lion Doubloon. What makes New Orleans Mardi Gras parades unique from and much more fun thanparades across the country is simple: active crowd participation. These float riders don’t just stand and wave (or try to lip-sync songs), they throw stuff to you! From beads, cups, and stuffed animals to bags of chips, painted coconuts, and even themed toilet paper rolls But, some of the most prized throws across every Mardi Gras krewe are doubloons. The year 1965 was part of a pivotal era for the Zulu club. During the 1960s, the organization faced internal decline and external pressure during the Civil Rights movement due to its use of blackface and tribal caricatures. Despite these challenges, Zulu persisted and eventually became a central fixture of the main Mardi Gras parade route by 1969. Interesting Find!!!
