This listing features a Lot of Two Washington D.C. Library of Congress Mural Paintings Postcards. One of these postcards dates to before 1907, and the other was postmarked and dated in 1913. The dividing line on the back of postcards was only allowed to be added to postcards starting in 1907, so the postcard without the back divider was printed before then. One postcard in this lot depicts the mural "Comus" by the artist Henry Oliver Walker. The mural portrays a scene from the poem "The Masque of Comus" by John Milton. The other postcard depicts another mural, "Lyric Poetry", also painted by Henry Oliver Walker. This mural portrays a depiction of Lyric Poetry at the center, and she is surrounded by figures that personify the feelings that inspire her music, including Pathos, Truth, Mirth, Devotion, Passion, and Beauty. These murals are in the Jefferson Building within the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. The Comus mural postcard was stamped and has writing on the back. The postmark is dated March 2nd, 1913. Stunning antique cards made by an artist from the early 1900s. Great condition. Amazing and unique find!
