Morgan’s iconic dollar debuted in 1878, the Mint rapidly experimented with and refined the eagle's reverse. This "Third Reverse" design corrected the anatomical structure of the bald eagle to show seven tail feathers alongside a refined, rounded breast and slanting top arrow feathers, setting the permanent standard for the rest of the famous series.
