This listing is for the 1953 Lincoln Wheat Cent Major Mint Error Foldover Rim / Out-of-Collar Strike. This coin features a dramatic out-of-collar foldover rim strike that occurred during the striking phase at the U.S. Mint. Because the planchet failed to seat completely inside the circular retaining collar, the left edge of the coin was violently compressed, pancaked, and squeezed outward by the immense pressure of the coin dies. This created a highly unique, paper-thin, fan-shaped elongation along the left rim. Due to the extreme outward metal flow during the strike, the metal flowed away from the die cavity rather than filling it. This completely erased the "L" in "LIBERTY," leaving a clean, error-specific "IBERTY" right next to the smash. Great Find!!!
