This listing is for the Vintage James W. Tufts Quadruple Plate Christening Cup. James Walker Tufts (1835–1902) was an American businessman and philanthropist from Boston, Massachusetts, who gained success by inventing and manufacturing the Arctic Soda Apparatus. After becoming a leader in the soda fountain industry, his company, founded in 1875, also produced a wide range of silver-plated tableware until around 1915. In 1895, due to poor health, Tufts sold his business interests and founded the resort town of Pinehurst, North Carolina. This Christening cup is a pewter mug characterized by its intricate dragon-shaped handle and a reeded, or ribbed, design around the base. Great Find!!!
