Gary Cooper (born Frank James Cooper; May 7, 1901 – May 13, 1961) was an American actor known for his strong, quiet screen persona and understated acting style. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor twice and had a further three nominations, as well as an Academy Honorary Award in 1961 for his career achievements. He was one of the top-10 film personalities for 23 consecutive years and one of the top money-making stars for 18 years. The American Film Institute (AFI) ranked Cooper at number 11 on its list of the 25 greatest male stars of classic Hollywood cinema.

On June 4, 1935, John E. Otterson became president of the re-emerged and newly renamed Paramount Pictures Inc. Zukor returned to the company and was named production chief but after Barney Balaban was appointed president on July 2, 1936, he was soon replaced by Y. Frank Freeman and symbolically named chairman of the board. On August 28, 1935, Paramount Pictures was re-listed on the New York Stock Exchange and when the company was under Balaban's leadership, the studio was successfully relaunched.

Popsicle tokens were issued as premiums in Popsicle packages starting in 1933. Later, in 1937, six were issued and we know for certain these were engraved by German-American engraver Franz Eue. These bore portraits of Claudette Colbert, Gary Cooper, Jean Harlow, Frederick March, Norma Shearer and Johnny Weissmueller. He misspelled Popsicle on the reverse of the Claudette Colbert medal as POPCICLE. Three of these are listed in the Red Book by Katie Jaeger and Dave Bowers, A Guide Book of U.S. Tokens and Medals, page 149.
