This listing is for the 1994 Whammer Imperial Challenge Coin Token Medal. The token was created for the game of Pogs, a popular childhood fad of the 1990s. The game originated from the Japanese game of Menko, which was brought to Hawaii by Japanese immigrants. The "POG" name came from the caps of Passion Fruit, Orange, and Guava (POG) juice bottles from the Haleakala Dairy in Hawaii, which were used as the original game pieces. As the game grew in popularity, players started using heavier objects to hit the stacks of cardboard milk caps, and these were called "slammers" or "whammers". The Heavy Metal slammer was manufactured by Imperial Toy Corporation, a toy company founded in 1969. Imperial Toy was known for producing a wide range of toys and licensed products, including bubbles, rubber animals, and figures based on Godzilla and Universal Monsters. The company was one of the leading brands to produce pogs and slammers during the craze. Interesting find with a unique history along with it!!!
