This listing is for a German Spielmark token, which features an animal theme with a Deer on one side and a Horse on the other. The term "Spiel" means play, and "Marke" means money; these tokens were used as counters in games, to teach children mathematical operations (especially when they were learning Roman numerals), or by shopkeepers for counting on an abacus-like grid.
