This listing is for the photographed 1890s No Date Dover Business College New Hampshire 2 Dollars Trade Currency Note. This note was issued without a specific date printed, for the Dover Business College in Dover, New Hampshire. One side of the note says, "For use with the budget systems of bookkeeping", alluding to their intended use by students at the college. Almost Uncirculated (AU) grade/condition, little to no folds or other signs of circulation, crisp note! Rare surviving "college currency" notes from their early usage in the late 19th century. Great rarer find with an incredibly interesting history!

The Dover Business College was founded in 1896 by A.D. Bliss, who was a member of the renowned Bliss family who were responsible for founding the majority of business colleges across the United States in the late 1800s. The school was located at 16 Orchard St off of Central Avenue in Downtown Dover. The building that housed the school has since been torn down and replaced with a parking garage located behind the current Dover Police Station. The college followed a similar curriculum to the rest of the Bliss schools, consisting of classes on bookkeeping, arithmetic, banking, and other skills needed to enter the business industry a the time. The college printed and issued these college currency notes to their students as part of the curriculum to practice dealing money through fake transactions between students and faculty that would take place in the main hall of the college. In 1902 the Dover Business College was purchased by David McIntosh, who renamed it the Mcintosh College. The college remained operating under this name in Dover for over a century, closing in 2009.
