This listing is for the photographed Vintage 1920s Goldtone and Enamel American Legion Emblem Screwback Tie Pin. The American Legion emblem is displayed with a bronze center. The reverse of the pin says "Pat. De. 54296", which is the patent number of this emblem design, first submitted to the US Patent Office in 1919 shortly after the Legions foundation. The reverse text and screwback fastening mechanism type dates this pin to approximately the 1920s. Pin is in excellent condition, with bright colors and little tarnishing from age! Small sized pin, perfect addition to a tie, measuring approximately a 1/2 inch in diameter. Amazing find from an interesting organization!

The American Legion was founded in 1919 by a group of 20 World War I soldiers to boost troop morale, believing that giving community to veterans coming home from foreign service would aid in their transition back to home life. Members could purchase membership pins such as this one with the option of having it be gold-plated or gold filled. Members of the Legion that were veterans wounded in action could have a silver center on their emblem pin, rather than the typical bronze center.

Thanks for stopping by!
