This listing is for the photographed 1907 India 1 Rupee. Beautiful coin from British owned India. Obverse of the coin looks uncirculated while the reverse lacks luster and detail in the crown with a weird strike. Stunning antique coin with more information below!
The coin was issued by the British Indian government while India was under British colonial rule. The obverse features a portrait of Edward VII, who became King-Emperor of India following the death of Queen Victoria in 1901. The reverse displays the traditional denomination of ONE RUPEE surrounded by a wreath. The rupee was an important circulating silver coin throughout British India and was used extensively in everyday commerce. The 1907 rupee was struck in .917 (91.7%) silver, with a standard weight of about 11.66 grams. This gave it roughly 10.69 grams of pure silver. The year 1907 falls in the middle of Edward VII's relatively short reign. Unlike the later George V rupees, Edward VII's Indian rupees have a distinctive older-style portrait and are popular with collectors of British India.
