This listing is for the photographed 1923 20 Million Mark Trier German banknote. This note was overprinted to 20 million marks from 20 marks as a result of the extreme hyperinflation in Germany after WWI. Issued by the City of Trier on September 15th, 1923. Beautiful red printed designs on the front and back of the note. Bank notes with this type of overprint are a rarer find.
After World War I Germany and Austria experienced extreme economic depressions and hyperinflation because of their loss. The rapidly increasing inflation resulted in many municipalities and institutions to have to overprint their notes, as by the time notes were printed and issued their denomination was deemed worthless.
Super interesting and rarer note! Great piece of history, excellent addition to any collection!
Thanks for stopping by!
