This listing is for the photographed 1991 Croatian 500 Dinara High Denomination Banknote. Issued on November 8th, 1991, the year that Croatia declared independence from Yugoslavia. High denomination note from when the socialist rule in the countries of the Eastern Bloc was dissolving. The obverse of this note shows the renowned physicist and astronomer Ruder Boskovic at the center, and geometric calculations in the upper right corner. The reverse of this note displays a vertical design of the Zagreb Cathedral in the foreground and a geometric representation of the city landscape in the background. Very Fine (VF) grade/condition, some visible folds and signs of circulation. P#21a (Pick Number 21a). Great note with an interesting history and beautiful design! Perfect addition to any collection!

In 1991, Croatia officially declared its independence from the socialist Republic of Yugoslavia and became a separate country. After independence, a period of transition began from the dinar back to the kuna. The name was re-chosen as the name of the currency to represent the fiscal history of Croatia. One kuna was equivalent to 1000 dinars. The modern kuna became the official currency of Croatia in 1994 on May 30th. Currently, the Croatian kuna includes a combination of both coins and bills in the circulation. Coins are in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 lipa. The banknotes are in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1000 kuna.
