The Saxony / Sheffield Watch Company was founded in New York in the 1950s. The company was known for their high quality, affordable Swiss Movement Mechanical watches. The company went by many names depending on their marketing audience. For example, products that they sold in high-end stores were sold under the Sheffield brand, whereas in wholesale or department stores they were sold under the Saxony brand. With the introduction of Quartz watches in 1970, many mechanical watch companies began to fail, including the Saxony / Sheffield Watch Co., as quartz watches were more accurate and affordable than their mechanical counterparts.
