1790 Spanish 8 Reales, exact coin photographed. Mexico as a Spanish colony (Mo FM). VF obverse detail, tons of unique / awesome chopmarks.

This coin issue: Struck for the new monarch of Spain, who had succeeded his father on December 14th 1788. This 8 Reales type has two unique features:
- The Sovereign's name is in the "IV" version instead of the typical "IIII".
- The Portrait is of the previous sovereign (Charles III). This could have been due to a delay in the new corner from Spain.

Chopmarks: These punch-like marks were made by Chinese merchants to verify the silver content of the coins they received. Coins with well-known chopmarks, like those from the China or India, can be highly desirable to collectors. Coins with a lot of marks like this have a great deal of history because they were stamped by many of different merchants. Some of the chopmarks can even be traced to specific merchants and locations allowing a collector to trace where his coin has been in the past!

Great addition to a collection.
