This listing is for the photographed 1915 Mexican Revolution El Estado de Chihuahua 5 Pesos Contemporary Counterfeit Note. This is a woodcut printed contemporary counterfeit note, meaning that it was printed by copying the print of a real issued note onto a blank note, capturing the signatures and design perfectly, making it harder to identify. More information about the identification of this note as a counterfeit below. The note was copied from a note issued under the military decree dated February 10th, 1914 (Decreto de 10 Febrero de 1914). Note was torn in half horizontally, but the note itself is still in good condition with a visible design. This note is 110 years old this year! Excellent note for any collection!

This note can be identified as a contemporary counterfeit for many reasons. First, the reverse of the note displays a red seal and block letters, but authentic issues of these 5-peso notes are only printed with black or navy-blue seals and letters. Additionally, the obverse printed design and letters have the classic woodcut print identifications, with thicker lines and additional ink residue around the edges of some sections as a result of stamping the copies of the design onto the note. When compared to an authentic version of any of the Chihuahua Mexican Revolution Peso notes from this period you can see the several discrepancies of this note that identify it as a counterfeit.

Contemporary counterfeits printed using the woodcut practice are a rare find for Mexican revolution notes, as most counterfeits were simply printed without any of the security aspects like the signatures or seals to create a more accurate design. This means that most counterfeits that are seen of these notes simply do not have signatures nor reverse seals, making this counterfeit note a very cool find from this period of history!
