This listing is for the photographed 1935 Venezuela 1/4 Bolivar Silver Coin - AU Condition.
The obverse shows Simón Bolívar, Venezuela's great independence leader, facing left. The word “BARRE” beneath his bust is the name of the original engraver, Albert Barre. The reverse shows Venezuela's coat of arms with the running horse, surrounded by: “ESTADOS UNIDOS DE VENEZUELA” meaning “United States of Venezuela.” At the bottom are the historic dates 19 DE ABRIL 1810 and 5 DE JULIO 1811, commemorating Venezuela's independence movement and declaration of independence. The reverse also states GRAM. 5 and LEI 835, telling you directly that the coin weighs 5 grams and is 835-fine silver. The name “Estados Unidos de Venezuela” was the country's official name from 1864 until 1953, so the wording on this coin is a great snapshot of Venezuela during that period. The 1935 issue was struck by the Philadelphia Mint, even though it was Venezuelan currency.
