First Edition Over the Teacups by Oliver Wendell Holmes - Second State - Very Good (VG) - Rare 1891 Oliver Wendell Holmes Poetry Book

This listing is for the photographed 1891 First Edition, Second State printing of Over the Teacups by Oliver Wendell Holmes. This book is a first edition with an olive-green cloth binding that features gilded gold text and borders on the front cover and spine. The text block also features gilded edges along the top of the book. According to the Bibliography of American Literature, this book is in the second printing state of the first edition, as the advertisement for Holmes' other printed works features the full Breakfast Table Series in 11 volumes which could be purchased for $18.50, which is different from the earlier first printing state. The book is in Very Good (VG) condition, with some visible shelf wear and fading of the gilded test on the spine due to use. Also featured throughout the book are pasted contemporary newspaper clippings of other poems by Oliver Wendell Holmes. Due to these clippings being in contact with the neighboring page for over 100 years, there is visible discoloration on these pages that aligns with where the newspaper came in contact with the page.
