At the very center is the letter "G", which is deeply engraved. A notable feature of this specific ring is its split-shank design. Instead of a single solid band, the sides are divided into three parallel rails that merge at the back.  In many traditions, a new Master Mason wears the ring with the points of the compasses facing toward them as a reminder of their obligations.
