Dated 1917 during the height of the war (Kriegsjahr 1917), this historical piece carries a face value of 25 Pfennig. Due to severe wartime shortages, precious metals like silver and copper were hoarded or rationed for military production, forcing local municipalities to strike their own temporary currency.  The hole allowed citizens, merchants, and military personnel to easily string the tokens together on a wire or cord. This allowed for quick counting, safe handling, and transport without losing loose coins during a chaotic period. This specimen features a striking octagonal (8-sided) shape and is minted from zinc, showcasing dark charcoal toning with crisp, readable gothic script (Fraktur). It is a tangible piece of European wartime history.
