This listing is for the photographed 1864 Concord, NH 2 Cent Unissued Merchant Scrip Remainder Note. Printed in Concord, New Hampshire on July 1st, 1864. This note was unissued, as identified by its lack of a signature and serial number. Since there are no signatures on this note, its intended issuer is unknown, but the local merchant Morrill & Silsby did issue these same merchant scrip notes. Uncirculated (UNC) grade/condition, no signs of circulation, crisp note! Great find with an interesting history! Circulated notes of this issue are more common, but an uncirculated remainder such as this one is a rarer find! LaFond R3 rarity. 

Morrill & Silsby was a book printing business that first began in 1840 under the name "Stearn, Morrills, & Silsby" as a partnership between Charles H. Stearn, Luther M. Morrill, Lucius B. Morrill, and George H. H. Silsby. The company first began by specializing in printing, binding, and publishing bibles. Six months after opening Stearn left the business, and soon after it was renamed "Morrills & Silsby", and they expanded their work to include general book printing and publishing. Lucius Morrill left the business in 1849, and it was once again renamed to Morrill & Silsby. By 1860 they operated a store front in the new Central Block on North Main St in Concord, NH. The business became firmly established in the city after the establishment of their storefront, and they remained successful until Morrill's death in 1880, after which the company became George H. H. Silsby & Son.
