This listing is for the photographed 1942 Occupied Philippines Bohol Emergency 10 Pesos Note. Issued by the Bohol Emergency Currency Board in the Commonwealth of the Philippines, Province of Bohol. Two signatures, auditor and fiscal member printed on the left end of the reverse. Serial number 206,707. Choice Fine (F+) grade/condition, fragile note with little signs of circulation. P#S137j (Pick Number S137j). Excellent note with an interesting history, making for a must have for any collection!
The Commonwealth of the Philippines issued emergency banknotes while in exile during World War II. These notes were also known as "guerilla pesos" and were printed by local governments using scarce local ink and resources, making lots of these notes seem in crude condition. After the Imperial Japanese forces completed their conquest of the Philippines in May 1942, all notes issued by the U.S. and Philippine administrations were outlawed, and their use carried significant risk. Incredibly interesting history!
Thanks for stopping by!
