Seen on the reverse is "100 REIS" and "DECRETO Nº 1817 DE 3 DE SETEMBRO DE 1870". The coin was introduced following a monetary reform authorized by the decree dated September 3, 1870. It circulated throughout Brazil during the reign of Pedro II, a period marked by economic growth, railway expansion, and the years leading up to the abolition of slavery.
