The coin belongs to the krone and øre system introduced by Denmark in 1873, replacing the old rigsdaler and skilling system. The new system was connected to the Scandinavian Monetary Union, which Denmark joined with Sweden in 1873. Norway joined the monetary union in 1875. The system was based on the krone, divided into 100 øre. So this little 1886 coin represents Denmark's transition into the modern Scandinavian monetary system.
