In January of 1960 the French government began the process of revaluing their currency, the Franc system, in response to rampant inflation that had affected the country for years. This revaluation established a new system for the franc currency, creating the Nouveaux Franc (NF) which was equal to 100 old francs (1 NF = 100 F). Banknotes using the New Franc began issuance in 1958, these new banknotes featured the name "Nouveaux Francs (NF)" to identify their different value from the old franc notes until the old francs ceased circulation in 1963. After 1963 New Franc notes began to be printed and circulated as "Franc" notes as the country began to restabilize their economy. These Nouveaux Franc notes provide an interesting look into the history of the French economy and their practices, making for a great addition to any collection!
