2004 Jefferson - Westward Journey Nickel - Peace Medal Reverse - Beautifully Golden Toned
Buffalo Nickels were produced from 1913 to 1938. In 1938 it was replaced by the Jefferson nickel.
In 2004 and 2005 the Jefferson reverse changed from the historical Monticello to commemorate an event. This series of four different nickels is called The Westward Journey Nickels.
The Louisiana Purchase/Peace Medal Nickel is the first of four coins in the series.
The obverse depicts the portrait of Thomas Jefferson designed by Felix Schlag used on the nickel since 1938. The reverse features a rendition of the reverse of the original Jefferson Peace Medal designed by John Reich in 1801. The medals were presented to Native American chiefs and other important leaders as tokens of goodwill at treaty signings and other events. The Lewis and Clark expedition carried these medals on their journey.
Offered coins hand painted with the appearance of a gold plated coin. To be clear, there is no gold content in the coating, and is merely for decorative purposes. A nice addition to a collection, as a gift, party favors or whatever your imagination may conjure up.
