This listing is for the photographed 1800s Unissued Farmers & Mechanics Bank 1 Dollar Rochester NH Obsolete Remainder Note. The vignettes on the obverse of this note depict an allegorical woman representing America standing beside a crouched Native American on the left end, a Native American family seated on a rock beside a cliff at the center, and an Allegorical woman representing Agriculture sat with her bounty at the right end. The text "ONE" is underprinted in red on the lower portion of the note, which is also printed on the reverse side. Beautiful clear designs! Uncirculated (UNC) crisp grade/condition, no signs of circulation and wear from age! Amazing rare piece of New Hampshire history in great condition! Perfect addition to any collection!

The Farmers and Mechanics Bank was chartered in 1856, and its founding location was in Rochester Village, New Hampshire. They operated for several years through the end of the decade at this first location with some success, where they printed one series of banknotes, most of which were never issued and circulated. By 1860 the banks Board of Directors decided to move the bank to the nearby village of Gonic, ceasing any and all remaining banknote issuance. The bank became the First National Bank of Gonic in accordance with the National Banking Act of 1865, which was later liquidated on January 14th, 1879.
