This listing is for the photographed 1921 Bad Honnef am Rhine 50 and 99 Pfennige German Emergency Notgeld Set of 2. Issued by the Municipality of Bad Honnef in the former Prussian state of Rhine in the years following World War I. Includes two notes that have varied denominations. Issued on October 1st, 1921. This is an incomplete set, as it includes only 2 of the 8 notes in the series. Each of the notes displays a saying that translates to "Who slept in by bed?" on the obverse. The reverse of these notes each displays a different illustration of a local scene. Uncirculated (UNC) grade/condition, crisp notes! Excellent condition and an interesting piece of history! Rarer denomination note!

Notgeld was a form of emergency currency that was issued by individual German municipalities or institutions immediately after the First World War when Germany was experiencing a severe economic depression. Most notgeld contained an expiry date, after which the note was deemed invalid. The issued notes of individual municipalities and institutions pulled power from the national Reichsbank and helped to counter currency shortages from the war. Printed using recycled materials, these notes became a popular collector's item because of their attractive colors and designs, leading to the overprinting of notes and eventually hyperinflation.
