This listing is for the 1917 Buffalo Nickel Lamination Error Coin. The lamination error on this Buffalo Nickel occurred due to impurities or gas bubbles trapped during production. As the metal was rolled into sheets, these contaminants created internal layers that failed to bond properly. When the coin was struck by the dies, the intense pressure caused the weakened surface "skin" to crack, flake, or peel away. Over time, the exposed interior metal oxidized more rapidly than the surface, resulting in the dark, splotchy, and recessed patches visible today. Great Find!!!
