This listing is the Antique 1951-1952 Opening of the New Jersey Turnpike Token as photographed. New Jersey started construction upon the Turnpike in 1950 to alleviate the congestion of traffic plaguing the New Jersey Highways. The project was completed within two years, with the first toll payer was a motorist in November of 1951. The last segment of the turnpike was installed by January 1952 completing a non stop highway of 118 miles from the George Washington Bridge to the Delaware Memorial Bridge as depicted upon the back of the token.
