This listing is for the photographed India 1/12 Anna 1901 - Almost Uncirculated.
The coin was part of the monetary system of British India, where the basic unit was the rupee: 1 rupee = 16 annas, 1 anna = 12 pies, Therefore, 1/12 anna = 1/192 rupee. These tiny fractional coins were useful for very small everyday transactions, particularly in an economy where low-denomination copper coins were important for ordinary commerce. The 1901 issue is especially interesting because Queen Victoria died on January 22, 1901. Consequently, this is one of the last-year issues of the Victoria 1/12 Anna series, which ran from 1877 through 1901.
