This listing is for the Large Lot Over Twenty Assorted Error Pennies. This lot of pennies features pennies from the 80s and 90s, and each penny is in a flip labeled with their specified errors. The known errors within this lot are bubbling, mottling, peeling, and full strike. Bubbling manufacturing defect can occur during minting; tiny pockets of gas can form between the copper plating and the zinc core. When struck, the heat from the die can cause these gas pockets to expand, pushing up the overlying metal and creating a rounded bump. Post-mint bubbling can occur if a circulated penny is scratched or its copper coating is worn thin; the highly reactive zinc core is exposed to moisture and acids. The zinc corrodes and oxidizes beneath the copper, similar to how iron rusts, producing gases and expanding corrosion byproducts that lift the copper into a bubble.
