Ora Mathias Baldinger, born on October 6, 1883, in Marion, Ohio, started working as a newsboy for the Marion Daily Star, where he earned the nickname “Reddy.” His connection with Warren G. Harding led to appointments as a page in the Ohio Legislature and Senate. After graduating from the Virginia Military Institute in 1910, Baldinger served in various military roles, including as a major in World War I, where he trained aerial pathfinders.
In addition to his military career, Baldinger was involved in a handful of Masonic organizations, including the Marion Lodge No. 70, the Scottish Rite, and the Aladdin Shrine Temple. He later became an aide to President Harding and assisted First Lady Florence Kling Harding after Harding’s death, showcasing his dedication to service and leadership throughout his life.
