The National Bank of Ukraine was established shortly after Ukraine gained independence in 1990, becoming the republic's central issuing bank. Starting in 1991 the bank began issuing notes in the denominations of 1, 3, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 Karbovantsiv. All notes in this first series have the same design only printed in different colors depending on denomination. These banknotes did not have serial numbers or signatures, with serial numbers only being issued on Karbovantsiv notes after 1992. Starting in 1996 the Karbovanets was replaced with Hryvnia as the national currency.
Extremely interesting piece of Ukrainian history and their fight for independence, great addition to any collection!
