This listing is for the photographed 1921 Brazil Valor Recibido 2000 Reis Bank Note. Issued by the National Treasury of Brazil, with "Valor Recibido" printed below the denomination, differentiating it from the "Valor Legal" issues. Large signature across the obverse of this note. This note has "Estampa 14a" printed above the series number, which is 53a. Portrait of J. Murtinho on the left end of the obverse of this note. These notes are a rarer issue of Brazilian banknotes, making Uncirculated notes extremely valuable. Great addition to any collection! P#16 (Pick Number 16).

After the monarchy was overthrown in 1889, the First Brazilian Republic was established, and the National Treasury took over currency issuance. The new notes carried republican symbols, like national heroes, to signify Brazil's break from monarchy. Frequent inflation in the early 20th century led to a steady devaluation of the réis, which prompted the introduction of increasingly large denominations.

In 1942, Brazil replaced the réis with a new currency, the cruzeiro, due to the hyperinflation that had eroded the value of the réis. The cruzeiro (Cr$) introduced a fresh monetary unit and new banknotes, which marked the end of the réis era.
