The 1843 coin is a transitional year, featuring both "Petite Head" and "Mature Head" varieties of Liberty on the obverse, and "Small Letters" and "Large Letters" on the reverse.  This specific 1843 large cent is counterstamped on the obverse and the reverse in the middle with a large stylized C.
