La moneda británica decimal de un penique (1p) es una unidad monetaria equivalente a una centésima parte de una libra esterlina. Su anverso ha presentado el perfil de la Reina Isabel II desde la introducción de la moneda el 15 de febrero de 1971, día en que la moneda británica se decimalizó. Se han utilizado cuatro retratos diferentes de la Reina en el anverso; el último diseño de Jody Clark se introdujo en 2015. El segundo y actual reverso, diseñado por Matthew Dent, presenta un segmento del Escudo Real y se introdujo en 2008. El penique es la moneda de menor valor (en términos reales) que ha circulado en el Reino Unido.
Originalmente, el penique se acuñó en bronce, pero desde 1992 se ha acuñado en acero chapado en cobre debido al aumento de los precios del cobre.
Se estima que en 2016 había 10.500 millones de monedas de 1p en circulación, con un valor nominal total de alrededor de 105.000.000 de libras esterlinas.
Las monedas de 1p son de curso legal en Inglaterra, pero no en Escocia, para cantidades de hasta 20p cuando se ofrecen como pago de una deuda; sin embargo, el estatus de curso legal de la moneda no suele ser relevante para las transacciones diarias.
