This listing is for the photographed 1915 (1917 Issue) Chamber of Commerce d'Angers 1 Franc Emergency Issue Note. These emergency notes were first issued in July of 1915 by the Angers Chamber of Commerce in response to the economic difficulties of France during World War I. This note was issued in 1917, as identified by the series number including a "2" at the end, this note is part of the "H.2" series. The obverse of this note features two caryatids and two cherubs on either side of the note, with the entire design representing a Greek style building. The reverse of this note has a similar building style frame with text inside that translates to "The bonds issued, guaranteed by a deposit of equal value, are exchangeable for ten or multiples of ten for banknotes of the Bank of France at the counters of the Angers branch. They must be presented for redemption before July 31, 1920, unless a decision extending this deadline is made." Stunning detailed and ornamented design. Very Fine (VF) grade/condition, some visible folds and signs of circulation, as pictured. Fantastic piece of history in excellent condition. This note is 104 years old this year!
