La nota dice "El Presidente, Directores y Compañía del Banco Hillsborough prometen pagar a [J. Crane] o al portador a la vista, Cinco Dólares, Amherst, 2 de noviembre de 1807". El Banco Hillsborough fue fundado el 18 de junio de 1806 y capitalizado con 50.000 dólares. Los billetes se imprimieron utilizando la "placa de acero estereotipo permanente" de Jacob Perkins que prevenía la falsificación. El banco solo duró tres años, ya que extendió su moneda más allá de sus reservas, y la Ley de Embargo de 1807 paralizó el comercio de Nueva Inglaterra.
