El Tenpōtsūhō fue una idea de Kinza para competir con el Kan'eitsūhō de 4 Mon de Ginza. El primer lote se acuñó en un período de 15 meses entre 1835 y 1836, con un total de 29.710.700 piezas acuñadas. La producción se reinició a mediados de 1837 y hasta 1842, se acuñaron 10.024.500 piezas adicionales. El gobierno de Edo obtuvo 180.800 Ryō de ganancias por estas acuñaciones.
La producción se reinició en 1847 y en 1865, se estableció un nuevo Zeniza en Nanba, Osaka, que acuñó la moneda hasta 1868. Después de la Restauración Meiji, el funcionario de divisas del nuevo gobierno reinició la acuñación, entre 1868 y 1870, se acuñaron 63.913.752 piezas. El total de acuñaciones desde la primera acuñación es de 484.804.054 piezas.
